Frequently Asked Questions
What types of dog training services does CleverDogs offer?
CleverDogs provides positive-reinforcement puppy training, basic manners, behavior support, day training, private lessons, and specialty classes to help dogs and owners throughout Columbus and the surrounding areas.
How do I know which dog training program at CleverDogs is right for my dog?
Choosing the right dog training program at CleverDogs depends on your dog’s age, needs, and goals. Puppies 16 weeks and younger are a great fit for our group puppy classes, while dogs over 16 weeks can join our general dog training classes to build everyday skills. If your dog barks, lunges, or struggles around other dogs, our Behavior Training Program is designed specifically for reactive or sensitive dogs. And if you’d prefer a more personalized approach, our private lessons offer one-on-one coaching tailored to your dog’s unique needs. If you’re still unsure, we’re always happy to help guide you to the best fit.
What is positive reinforcement dog training, and why does CleverDogs use it?
Positive reinforcement training involves building skills in small pieces towards a final goal. We use something a dog will work for (reinforcement), including treats, interaction, toys, sniffing and more. This style of training is great for teaching skills, creating positive emotions and developing teamwork with dogs. Veterinarians who specialize in behavior will advocate for this style of training.
What vaccinations does CleverDogs require for training classes and services?
To keep all dogs safe, CleverDogs requires up-to-date vaccinations for Parvovirus, Distemper, and Rabies. Puppies must be current on age-appropriate Parvovirus and Distemper vaccines, while adult dogs must show proof of all three. These core vaccinations help ensure a healthy training environment for every dog in our care.

Our Customers Say

The basic obedience at CleverDogs has been so instrumental in building skills and confidence for my little rescue pup. Even though we’ve only been back once since completing the course it’s a place we plan to return to periodically. Both Lisa and Kristen are patient and positivity-focused while offering great tips and feedback. Coming to class is always a fun experience. I think the strongest testament to the environment at CleverDogs, is how happy my dog gets when we pull in the parking lot!

I only have great things to say about CleverDogs! So far my dog and I have taken beginner agility in a group class setting. Kristen is an awesome instructor and makes each class feel like you are getting one on one attention. She gives such good advice to each client and makes the experience so much fun. A lot of care is taken to keep separation between dogs while rotating through stations. Each class has been so well organized and the facility itself is very clean. There are such a wide variety of classes and workshops offered. I can’t wait to try other classes with my dogs!
