Hi Families,
We're keeping you informed regarding an update we heard from a student. A family notified us Wednesday, November 5th that their puppy was taken to the emergency vet late last Tuesday, November 4th and tested positive for Parvovirus.
This is an infectious disease that is spread through feces. Puppies are more susceptible than adult dogs. Your puppy or dog has had multiple vaccinations against it at this point.
The puppy in question did not poop at the facility (inside or out) and was not symptomatic when attending class on Monday, November 3rd. Puppies may 'shed' the virus up to 7 days before being symptomatic. This puppy was vaccinated on an appropriate schedule and so the vaccination company is in contact and should be assisting the family.
Note we do a thorough cleaning of the facility weekly and spot clean daily. We disinfect before and after puppy classes specifically because puppies are at higher risk. We use the industry recommended sanitation and cleaning protocols for our facility, water bowls, toys, chews and props specifically to minimize risk. After this report we have done extra rounds of sanitation and cleaning and we will have increased sanitation over the next few weeks.
We will be pausing all puppy classes for the next two weeks.
If you are currently enrolled, you should receive an email from us with an updated plan and revised class schedule.
